How to Install a Pre-Made WordPress Theme

Tips & Tricks

Need help installing your new WordPress theme? Worry not, we’ve got you covered. Check out detailed instructions after the jump. If you have questions, feel free to ask them in the comments!

You will need to have some knowledge of FTP to install your WordPress theme and plug-ins (if included). You can get your FTP settings from your host, if do not know them. A good, free recommendation for FTP is FileZilla.

If your design comes with a plug-in (most likely the FlickrRSS plugin), you will install the plug-in through FTP in your wp-content/plugins folder. Don’t forget to activate it through WordPress!

Adding your blog title to your header & uploading to WordPress

To add your blog title to the header.png, open it in Adobe Photoshop (if you don’t have Photoshop, try downloading a free trial), paint, PaintShop or any other image editing program and add your blog title. Make sure to save the file as a PNG file (for transparency) otherwise you will might end up with a weird background color.

If this is for WordPress, you re-upload the image to the wp-content/themes/ and then find your theme folder to upload it to and you are all set!

Some themes from our pre-made shop make it even easier to switch out your header. In the WordPress admin area go to Apperance >> Header. This panel will allow you to upload the image you created with your blog title on it, no FTP needed!

Fonts

Font names and links to where you can download them are included in the ReadMe.txt files included in your theme.
